To help you all get to know the Prestige Prep family, we will be featuring one of our wonderful tutors each month. This month, we’re pleased to introduce Josh Wright!

A proud native of Arlington TX, Josh has two college professor parents – she an art historian, he a molecular biologist. He credits them with giving him a unique balance of left and right brain. Josh’s service on Arlington’s Arts Grants Review Board helped him matriculate at Harvard. While getting his BA in English, Josh engaged in around 30 productions as a performer, director, choreographer, and writer. During his senior year, Josh made numerous audition trips to NYC and eventually landed a role in the national tour of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. After the tour, he got his Actor’s Equity card by playing “Nigel the Pelican” in the original cast of Disney’s Finding Nemo: The Musical. As Josh transitioned from performing into directing and choreography, he also discovered the wonderful world of tutoring!

After 5+ years of tutoring, Josh appreciates how his experience in theater has informed his approach to students. He sees each student as an exercise in dramaturgy: What does this person need to get to the next stage of their development? He’s learned the importance of backing off when needed – listening, giving space, letting the project (or student) grow and breath separately. “As a director, the show needs to go on without me at some point. The same philosophy applies to tutoring – the goal isn’t to build a permanent scaffolding, it’s to build it strong enough so it can endure.” Theater also informs Josh’s approach to deadlines: the show must go on. Whether it’s opening night, the morning of the SAT, or the due date for an essay, Josh understands how to balance the desire for perfection with the need for a finished product.

In addition to tutoring, Josh spends his summers directing both in NYC and regionally. He has choreographed for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Dos Equis, numerous music videos, and nightlife events around the city.
