Partnership with Hebrew Language Academy

Prestige Prep is the proud provider for after-school academic enrichment programming to Hebrew Language Academy. We support middle school HLA students in a variety of academic areas, including preparation for state testing, general academic and homework support, strengthening of study skills and organization, and test prep for the SHSAT exam. This partnership allows us to provide comprehensive academic support and enrichment opportunities to HLA students, helping them succeed both inside and outside the classroom. Prestige Prep’s programming has resulted in significant student improvement across a range of metrics including  organization, concept retention, student confidence, and school-wide state testing results.

Last year’s programming resulted in the following results:

  • For 8th graders, student accuracy improved an average of 80% from their diagnostic mean
  • For 7th graders, student accuracy improved an average of 110% from their diagnostic mean.
  • For 6th grade, student accuracy improved an average of 150% from the diagnostic mean.

A unique scenario emerged over the past few years as HLA was asked to welcome a group of Ukrainian refugee students and ensure their growth and success. In conjunction with HLA and its administration, Prestige Prep sourced teachers able to bridge the language divide and help provide key support. As part of our programming, these students are given customized English Language Learning material. As some of these students show a particular proficiency in math, custom materials are provided to expand beyond the daily school curriculum into more advanced topics. Our teachers provide support to navigate other academic needs for Ukrainian students in addition to preparation for state testing.

About Hebrew Language Academy

Hebrew Language Academy is an exceptional, diverse public charter school that teaches Modern Hebrew to children of all backgrounds and prepares them to be successful global citizens. Opened in 2009 in Brooklyn’s Community School District 22, the Hebrew Language Academy Charter School (“HLA”) is the founding school in the Hebrew Public network of schools. HLA has a diverse student population that uniquely reflects the multicultural and vibrant dynamics of the neighborhood. It is housed in a state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly school building that boasts a large gym/auditorium, a full-sized cafeteria, music rooms, spacious, well-lit classrooms, and outside playground space. The school serves over 600 students on its two campuses: a K-4 elementary school campus and a 5-8 middle school campus. HLA has been recognized as a “Reward School” by the New York State Department of Education for its students’ academic growth. The school offers an academically rigorous curriculum, including daily Modern Hebrew studies that lead to a high level of language fluency. “Global citizenship” education is a big part of the school’s focus. It includes the development of student skills in communication (including learning a world language), collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. It also includes an emphasis on empathy and emotional intelligence.

HLA is proud of its inclusive and diverse community. HLA serves students from all backgrounds, including a high percentage of students with special needs and a growing number of students who are English language learners. HLA is a member of the Coalition of Diverse Charter Schools. HLA is a strong believer in personalized learning – ensuring that each and every child has the opportunity to grow academically and socially in ways that are tailored to their needs and learning styles. HLA’s personalized approach to learning is enhanced by small student-to-teacher ratios – transforming the classroom experience into one of genuine community which in turn promotes positive emotional development in each child.
